I’ve been shooting seriously now for a little under 3 years. Relative to my peers, I’m best at low light candid photography, and so I do very well at photographing night life at events and clubs. I most often shoot RAW with a Nikon D700, and a handful of fast primes.
In real life I am an ex-mathematician. While earning my PhD at UCLA I learned this important fact about myself & mathematics: I don’t want to spend my life doing it; it is not my passion.
Alexander Graham Bell said “when one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” I stared at my closed door – the mismatch of math talent with a lack of passion – for a short while, before life opened two doors for me. I discovered two unexplored passions – a passion for photography and a passion for community organizing. Since then I have helped build LA’s burgeoning bike scene and bike activism community.
